Stanley C. Spencer, Ph.D. is best known as the creator of Romance in Marriage (romanceinmarriage.org), a web site dedicated to helping married couples revive and preserve romantic love. He also manages Evolution Research News (evolutionresearchnews.org), which objectively covers news and research in evolution, origin of life, creationism, and intelligent design. In the botany world, Stan is best known for formally naming two new (to science) species of North American wildflowers, Navarretia saximontana (Rocky Mountain navarretia) and Navarretia willamettensis (Willamette navarretia), that he discovered during graduate school. He and his wife, Amy, coauthored a paper officially naming and describing the new species in 2003.
Stan received a Ph.D. in botany from Claremont Graduate University in 1997, and completed postdoctoral studies in evolutionary genetics at the Smithsonian Institution's Laboratory of Molecular Systematics in 1998. He currently works as a consulting biologist.
Stan and Amy live and raise their seven children in southern California.
